I'm a physicist who doesn't mind opening a "dialog" with the Church. If the Church wants to be respected by scientists, it should start by subjecting some quaint dogma to scientific scrutiny.

First, let's see an experiment on the efficacy of prayer in a controlled experiment. That could be followed by re-examination of such anachronisms as talking snakes and donkeys, assumptions and virgin births, fake shrouds and magic waters and wafers.

If, as you say, "The church can only pray...," the church is surely doomed.
