Re: 75% of New Orleans now charter schools:

Could someone explain how charter schools, which usually have open-geography enrollment rather than neighborhood-based enrollment, "steer" students of color into "a set of lower-performing schools"? If all students have the option of attending the higher-performing charter schools, why are charter schools the problem, as the statistic's wording implies? Are charter schools in New Orleans different in this respect than elsewhere in the country?

Wow! And these are the very governments, Fed and State, to whom we entrust education of our children, protection of our environment, housing the nation and our future health care?

One only hopes that the first thing our new Republican President does in 2013 is abolish all those nanny-state agencies, beginning with the EPA, HUD, Energy and Education.
