Mark Silk over at Spiritual Politics reported on a survey showing that more Christians (and more Americans generally) think that capitalistic values are at odds with Christian values than those who think the values are consistent. And last month, Rabbi Michael Lerner wrote an essay powerfully criticizing the wholesale acceptance by President Obama of capitalist values, and he proceeded to discuss ways to get a national progressive agenda before the eyes of the public. He had previously suggested that a rival Democratic candidate would be an ideal vehicle for getting a progressive agenda before the voters. In this essay, however, he recognizes that the media story about such a candidate would focus on the inevitability of failure rather than what the candidate stands for. So in this essay Lerner has some other suggestions. Recommended reading: here.
