President Obama referred last night to "health care costs, including programs like medicare and medicaid, which are the single biggest contributor to our long-term deficit." Maybe so, but I would have thought our responses to the military lobby including our addiction to useless immoral wars was a greater contributor. Obama said last night that he would defend social security, but if he is planning to cut health services to the elderly, he will deserve the political consequences.
Is it too late to point out that our US Constitution explicitly grants war powers to the Federal Government, but does NOT grant federal powers regarding education, health care or retirement benefits?
Getting the Feds out of those areas reserved to the states would not leave Americans unschooled, untreated and abandoned. Americans got along fine when the states took care of those items, until the Feds took over and put us into a deep recession after 1935.
